Writing Samples

Most of my texts are published in newsletters, flyers, brochures, corporate magazines, press releases, speeches or on websites of my clients, and therefore under their name.

The following contains a small selection of writings that were published under my own name. It is no coincidence that these are predominantly about motorcycles and travelling. Motorcycle touring is  my passion, in which my personal and professional life overlap.

Off-road in South Africa: If I can do this…

In October 2017, four English friends and I went to explore South Africa on a three-week motorcycle tour. It was a truly epic tour, full of impressions and encounters. One of the most memorable experiences of the trip was to say good-bye to the tarmac and go off-road for the very first time in my life.  ...

Implementing and fast-tracking infrastructure projects: The model of acceptance planning

Energy, transport, urban development, industry and agriculture: Most construction projects appear to have two things in common: they lack public acceptance, and the risks of prolonged planning procedures and the overruling of planning permissions by the courts are ever increasing. JK has developed the approach of acceptance planning, which aims at successfully planning and implementing infrastructure, construction and development projects right from the start.

Rainbow over a beach in South Africa

The richest nation in the world

News from South Africa only rarely find its way into the international media. Recent weeks saw a slight surge in coverage, which was mainly due to the elections on 8th May 2019. Almost all of the stories painted a rather dark picture of the country, and to some degree quite rightly so. However, the picture remained incomplete, and there are reasons enough to get the paintbrush out and add some brighter colours. ...

Motorcycle Touring 2.0 ~ Lets Go Virtual?

Countries around the world have started to open up their borders again to allow traveling during the summer holidays in the northern hemisphere. South Africa is still continuing with the Corona-lockdown, but we are hoping to open up for tourism again soon. In the meantime we explore other options – and they are virtually out of this world. ...

The Secret Joys of Pillion Riding

The world of motorcycling is full of stories of great adventures – usually told from the perspective of the rider. In comparison, pillion riders keep a rather low profile. They seldom boast about the blissful happiness and pure joy they experience when being out on the road with a trustworthy rider. Likewise, they rarely ever mention the bravery it sometimes takes to get on the back of a motorcycle. It’s about time we take a peek into the secret world as seen from the back of a bike. ...

Beyond the 'Big Five'

Elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard - for many visitors to South Africa, spotting at least two or three of the Big Five is a must. However, there is no guarantee that the proud lion, the secretive leopard, the imposing rhino, the bold buffalo or the majestic elephant will make an appearance in front of your camera. What can be guaranteed though is that if you keep your eyes open, you may discover some astonishing species, testament to the vastly varied and ever astonishing African wild life. ...
